Scott Wong elected USA flag bearer for 2001 summer World University Games

Scott Wong learned last night that he had been chosen by his teammates to carry his country's flag and lead the USA Delegation into the Opening Ceremony of the 2001 Summer World University Games Wednesday night (August 22) at the Beijing Workers? Stadium. Wong, a member of the USA Men's Volleyball Team, was elected as USA Flag Bearer in a meeting in which the captains of each U.S. team competing at this 21st Universiade nominated and voted on the individual they felt most deserving of this high honor.

It is an extreme honor just to be here representing my country, said Scott Wong. I cant even describe the way I feel about it. I have some family heritage from the Chinese culture and obviously representing my homeland of America. Its an extreme honor. I dont think it will all sink in until I am marching into the stadium leading the U.S. team. I am sure it will be an awesome feeling.
