Confederate flag lawsuit filed against FAA Jacksonville, Florida
The Southern Legal Resource Center, Inc. announces that it has filed suit against the FAA on behalf of two Confederate Southern American air traffic controllers who complain of anti-confederate discrimination in the workplace. Robert Fanucci and James O'Neal Parden, members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, were both ordered back in 2000 to discontinue bringing Confederate symbols into the parking lot and workplace at FAA Jacksonville, Florida.
Fanucci and Parden retained the SLRC who brought EEOC claims against the FAA that were finally denied in December, 2002. A Federal lawsuit was Fanucci and Pardens last available remedy. The lawsuit cites First Amendment violation by the banning of Confederate symbols in a government workplace and also discrimination based on race, religion (theConfederate flag bearing a Christian cross) and national origin (Confederate Southern American).
"It's about time that anti-Confederate bigotry stopped," said Kirk D. Lyons, Chief Trial Counsel of the SLRC. "President Bush, in his St Patrick's day message, praised the Irish who served in the Northern Army, without one word of praise for the many thousands of Irishmen who served courageously in the Confederate Army!" Lyons added.
