COMMON takes the checkered flag in Indianapolis
Almost 2,300 IT professionals attended the COMMON Spring 2003 IT Education
Conference & Expo in Indianapolis from March 9th to 13th, 2003.
Said COMMON President Bob Boyson: "In the first part of the year we were in a little
bit of a panic -- between the economy, what's going on internationally, and the number of
folks who had pre-registered at that time -- but to look around and see close to 2,300
people here, it's just great.
Opening Session set the pace
The Indianapolis conference officially began with the Opening Session on Sunday
afternoon. Boyson welcomed attendees and introduced such advancements as expanded
Expo hours and enhanced online grids. In addition, Boyson made conference-related
announcements and gave important reminders.
Then, Malcolm Haines, an iSeries marketing expert who has returned to IBM to promote
the iSeries, gave the keynote speech: iSeries, iNation, IBM. Haines emphasized that
marketing is key to furthering the growth of the iSeries, and he showed an innovative new
iSeries campaign.
IBM hosted informative iSeries Nation Town Hall Meeting
On Monday morning, Al Zollar, IBM's new General Manager for eServer iSeries, emceed
IBM's two-hour iSeries Nation Town Hall Meeting. Zollar began by reaffirming IBM's
strong support for COMMON. There are COMMON members and future
COMMON members, said Zollar. And our focus is to make sure we get in touch with
those future COMMON members.
