Marietta Beneficial Association (MBA) to dedicate flag pole

The Marietta Beneficial Association (MBA), although not a veterans association, will dedicate a flag pole today, Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, 1999 at 3:00 pm in memory of all Veterans that fought and died in defense of this country. Since it's Charter on April 17, 1911, the Marietta Beneficial Association (MBA) has had many members and officers that have been veterans of foreign wars. Those participating in the dedication service today will be District 98 State Representative Thomas E. Armstrong and Marietta Mayor Oliver C. Overlander both residences of Marietta. Also in attendance will be other Marietta Borough officials and officers and members of the Marietta Beneficial Association (MBA).

After WWII the Marietta Beneficial Association (MBA) placed a Plaque in front of their building with the names of all those from Marietta that had served and some of which had given their lives during WWII. The WWII Plaque has been standing alone in front of the Marietta Beneficial Association (MBA) all these years.

This 30 foot flag pole is being dedicated today to show more patriotism and visibility in the Marietta community for All veterans that have died for us in defending our country and for those veterans that are still alive today. After realizing that some of the Veterans from the Community were also Prisoners of War, we decided to honor them by flying the "POW" Flag also, right underneath the American Flag.

Both Flags will be lighted at night and will be flown 24 hours a day 365 days a year in memory of All Veterans that have fought and died for our country. We would like to thank everyone that has financially donated and contributed towards the flag pole, lighting and installation. A special thanks to VFW Red Rose Post 2435 in Columbia Pennsylvania for the donation of the American Flag.
