Coy, Shippensburg soldier to display well-traveled flag Tuesday
State Rep. Jeff Coy will welcome U. S. Army Capt. Brian Saul of Shippensburg a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom to the Capitol on Tuesday, where the two will display a United States flag flown over the Capitol and in Iraq.
In April, Coy presented Capt. Saul with a United States flag flown over the Capitol, and Capt. Saul took that flag with him on his deployment to Iraq. Now that Capt. Saul has returned safely from duty, he wants to return the flag to the Shippensburg community. The Shippensburg VFW has agreed to accept the flag and display it. The event will include raising the flag up a flagpole in Soldiers Grove Park.
Also on display will be Capt. Sauls photo journal of his experiences in Operation Iraqi Freedom, including some pictures of the flag being displayed in Iraq. He served for four and a half months in Iraq from May 7 to Sept. 20. He returned home last week and is spending two weeks with family before heading to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The flag presentation will take place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 in Soldiers Grove Park, across Commonwealth Avenue from the State Capitol Building. (In case of inclement weather, the presentation will take place in Coys office, room 412 Main Capitol.)
