New Mexico State Highway and Transportation Department (NMSHTD) Adjutant Secretary Rhonda Faught and Aviation Director Mike Rice will officially present Robert Benavidez with the state flag on Wednesday, August 28, at a luncheon ceremony during the 2001 Annual Conference of the New Mexico Municipal League in Deming. Also present at the flag presentation will be Deming Mayor Sam Baca; Dennis Armijo, Luna County Commission Chair; Donn Irwin, District 32 Representative; and John Smith, State Senator from District 35. It is an honor to have Mr. Benavidez represent our state in New York, said NMSHTD Secretary Pete Rahn.

Mr. Benavidez submitted an application and letter and was notified of his selection August 10. He will leave Deming September 3 and arrive in New York September 7, participating in planned events in Summerset, Pennsylvania and in Frederick, Maryland en route to New York City.
