MIA and POW Flag Under Consideration for County Flag Staff
Commissioner Dwyer will be requesting the Board of Commissioners accept the POW/MIA flag from the National League of Families and provide for it to be flown on Flag Day, June 14. The flag would also be displayed subsequently on each day when the United States and State of Oregon flags are flown.
It's my pleasure to introduce a resolution requiring the POW/MIA flag be flown at the County, said Commissioner Dwyer. This flag will be a daily reminder to all our citizens and visitors that not everyone returned from the Vietnam War. These men and women paid the ultimate price in answering the call to duty. In addition, we should be doing more to restore the health of those brave service personnel who have returned because its the right thing to do. This will send a message to current military service personnel that they can expect their government and follow citizens to care for them when they return.
The United States congress designated the National League of Families POW/MIA flag as a symbol of the Nations concern and commitment to resolving the fates of Americans still prisoner, missing, and unaccounted for in Southeast Asia.
