Honoring Flag Day, U.S. Flags Available For Purchase From Congressional Office
As America honors our flag on Flag Day this Monday, U.S. Congressman Chris John reminds constituents of the opportunity to purchase U.S. flags through Congressional offices.
Our flag is an enduring reminder of our independence, freedom and unity as a nation, stated John. On this day in 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the ‘Stars and Stripes’ as the pattern for our national flag. It is fitting that we set aside time to remember and respect all that our flag symbolizes. Congressman John has been honored by the Citizens’ Flag Alliance for his efforts to protect our flag while in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Flag Day was observed for the first time in 1877, the 100th anniversary of the adoption of our country's red-white-and-blue banner. The U.S. Congress officially recognized Flag Day by passing the National Flag Day Bill in 1949, during President Harry Truman's administration.
How to order an American flag: U.S. Flags are available for purchase through Congressman John’s office. Flags are available in cotton or nylon, and they may be ordered in several sizes. The prices range from $15.95 to $27, and these prices include the shipping and handling of the flag.
Flags not flown over the U.S. Capitol are available for immediate shipping, however it takes approximately six weeks to fill orders for flags being flown over the Capitol. A certificate of authenticity accompanies flags flown over the Capitol.
