  • Caltrans's policy allowing only American flags
    A federal judge today ruled unconstitutional the California Department of Transportation's policy allowing American flags, but no other banners, to be displayed on highway overpasses. Judge Ronald Whyte found that although fences on overpasses are not public forums for expression, CalTrans's policy was both impermissibly viewpoint-based and not reasonably related to the safety concerns the Department put forth to justify the policy.

  • Does Freedom Mean You Have The Right To Burn A Flag
    With the U.S. Senate only a few votes away from amending the Constitution to ban using the flag to express dissent, the American Civil Liberties Union today asked Americans to consider whether freedom means we have the right to burn the flag. In the fifth installment of a new public policy advertising campaign running on the op-ed page of The New York Times, the ACLU said that a proposed constitutional amendment would make it a crime to desecrate the American flag. The proposed amendment has already passed the House of Representatives and is likely to be voted on in the Senate this month.

    If organizers succeed, more than 3,000 Memorial Flags, each personalized with the name of a person lost on 9/11, will be flown in New York Harbor during “Sail for America” on Saturday, September 14, 2002. “One purpose of Sail for America is to remember the people who were lost,” says Michael Fortenbaugh, Chairman of the Organizing Committee. “Sailors from all over the nation are bringing their boats to New York Harbor.   • Collection drive provides opportunity to dispose of worn, tattered flags
    Franklin County Auditor Joe Testa and the Operation Flag Committee are organizing a collection drive to gather worn and weathered U.S. flags. Local Scout groups and other community organizations are encouraged participate in the effort. The flags collected by Operation Flag will be included in a disposal ceremony conducted by the American Legion Hilliard Post #614 at 7 p.m. at the Franklin County Fairgrounds on Flag Day, June 14.

  • American gold trimmed flags for indoor use
    Have you ever seen the American gold trimmed flags flying. The gold trim or fringe is deemed to be not part of the flag but honorable enrichment only.
